Safety Part II

Greetings from Turkey,

For starters.... I have to say....

I thought Harry's military crew cut was the most alarming shocker of the trip... that was before I found out.... when we arrived.... it is R A M A D A N.

The most holiest of months for Islam.

And I did not know this prior to packing / coming. After taking inventory... we are headed to the Grand Bazaar to do a little shopping. A few head coverings. Longer skirts. Shirts with sleeves. You know... the basics that will not SCREAM anything offensive during their religious holiday.

Other than that.....The sights and sounds here are amazing.... so different from anything we have ever been in.... probably because we have never been to a Muslim country during Ramadan.

Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان‎, pronounced: /rɑmɑd̪ˤɑːn/) (also written Ramazan, Ramzan, Ramadhan, Ramdan, Ramadaan) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and indulging in anything that is in excess or ill-natured; from dawn until sunset. Ramadhan was the month in which the first verses of the Qur'an were claimed to have been revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.

Ramadan is a time of reflecting and worshipping Allah. Muslims are expected to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam and to avoid obscene and irreligious sights and sounds.

So we have decided to take it slower as well. Instead of our fast paced tour. We are going to take a little time to understand our surroundings a little better. Enjoy the atmosphere.

Blessings to those who check the Ramadan calendar before going on vacation,
Kristie
