Day in Beyoğlu

Greetings,

Harry and I spent the day meandering through the streets of Beyoğlu.

Beyoğlu is a district located on the European side of İstanbul, Turkey, separated from the old city (historic peninsula of Constantinople) by the Golden Horn.

A thriving commercial district complete with a trolley car.

Beyoğlu is the most active art, entertainment and night life centre of Istanbul. Starting from the early 1990s, an urban renewal has brought numbers of young professionals back into the area and revitalized the main shopping artery.

The Galata Tower is a medieval stone tower in the Galata district. One of the city's most striking landmarks, it is a high, cone-capped cylinder that dominates the skyline and affords a panoramic vista of Old Istanbul and its environs.

Taksim Square situated in the European part of Istanbul, is a major shopping, tourist and leisure district famed for its restaurants, shops and hotels. It is considered the heart of modern Istanbul, and is the location of the Cumhuriyet Anıtı (Republic Monument), which was built in 1928 and commemorates the formation of the Turkish Republic.

ANd then we took a little lift over the park....

And then to Dolmahce Palace...

This poor guy was put there in the sweltering heat... the guy behind him in the shade would ever so often come out and towel off his seating forehead.

All in all we enjoyed our quiet time in the more modern section of Istanbul. Harry was content to sit at an actual Starbuck's all day and sip US coffee.

Blessings,

Kristie
